Celebration and Commemoration: My Experience at ISNHS's 123rd High School Day

Image
Ilocos Sur National High School's (ISNHS) 123rd High School Day celebration was a memorable event that was both joyful and exhausting because of the extensive field demonstration preparations. It is impossible to overestimate the celebration's happiness and contentment, nevertheless. Among the celebration's highlights was the coronation of the new Mr. and Ms. ISNHS, however I must admit that, in contrast to previous year, this year's coronation was a little dull. I had anticipated more excitement and energy, but it was lacking. Nevertheless, I gave the trophy to the fourth prince, who happens to be my brother, so it was a memorable moment for me. I consider it an honor to have been able to help him in this way. My favorite part of the event, aside from the coronation, was watching the Special Program in the Arts (SPA) students perform. Their expertise and skill as dancers really wowed me. The dancesport dancers Jennica and John Paul, who competed in R1AA, also gav...

My Dream, My Future: How Do I See Myself 15 Years from Now?

Image
I see myself fifteen years from now as the product of my aspirations, diligence, and hard work. Despite the length of the road, each action I take now builds a bridge to the future I hope to achieve. I envision myself as a prosperous professional who is always developing in a line of work that combines my passion for helping others with my aspiration to work in technology. I have achieved my goal of studying information technology throughout that period, bringing with me the knowledge and abilities necessary to stay up to date with the swift advancements in technology. I see myself contributing to the advancement of law enforcement technology by fusing creative thinking with volunteer work. I also picture a balanced life outside of work, where I remain a devoted wife and a mother my kids can be proud of. They will have grown into young adults and be on their own by that time. I want to serve as their mentor and a resource for them in times of need. My family is the most importan...

Women’s Month Celebration: Embracing Gender Equality for an Inclusive Society

Image
Every March, we celebrate Women’s Month, a precious opportunity to recognize the achievements, challenges, and contributions of women in shaping our world. This year’s theme, “WE for Gender Equality and an Inclusive Society,” aims to highlight the importance of unity in breaking down barriers and providing equal opportunities for all.  The word “WE” symbolizes unity and collective action. Gender equality is not just a women’s issue but a social issue that requires the solidarity of everyone, women and men, regardless of their status in life. By working together, we can create a society of justice, respect, and inclusion.  An inclusive society is one that leaves no one behind, where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive. This includes breaking down stereotypes, addressing discrimination, and promoting policies that provide equal opportunities for all.  In recent years, more women have been holding leadership positions, proving that they are capable of making decision...

Designing with Ease: My Experience Using Microsoft FrontPage

Image
Creating a front page using Microsoft FrontPage was a fun and educational experience. I was able to apply what I’ve learned in HTML in a more visual and user-friendly environment. Using FrontPage made it easier to design a web page because I could see how everything looked in real time while adding text, images, and formatting. It helped me understand how layout and design play a big role in making a website look attractive and organized. I didn’t encounter any major problems while doing the front page. The tools and features in Microsoft FrontPage were easy to navigate and understand. If ever I come across any challenges in the future, I am confident that I can ask help from my friends and teachers who are always ready to assist me. Moving on, I will continue to learn and learn. I want to explore more features of Microsoft FrontPage and other web design tools so I can improve my skills and create more advanced and creative websites. This experience has motivated me to keep learning an...

Valentine’s Day: A Celebration of Love and Appreciation

Image
Araw ng mga Puso or Valentine's Day is a special day celebrated every February 14th to show love and appreciation to our loved ones. This is not only for lovers but also for family, friends, and other people who play an important role in our lives. Valentine's Day is rooted in the history of St. Valentine, a Roman priest who secretly married soldiers who were forbidden to marry during the Roman Empire. Because of his concern and love, he became a symbol of love and sacrifice. Over time, it has become a tradition to give gifts, flowers, and love letters on this special day. There are different ways to express our love and appreciation:  ❤️ Small gift – No need to be loved; what is important is the sincere giving.  ❤️ Expressing feelings – Can be through a letter, message, or personally saying “I love you” or “Thank you.”  ❤️ Spending time – The most important gift is the time we spend with our loved ones.  ❤️ Small surprise – A simple dinner, a hug, or even jus...

Our Community-Based Research Journey: Discovery and Growth

Image
Back then, our teacher sent us a file about the Community-Based Research, she told us to take note of what's in the file. After that she then told us that we will be group by the use of where we came from. That is when Me, Niña, Luis and Nathaniel are grouped together for the Research the we conducted in Santa Catalina. After that we are told to start our CBR by making the Title with Subtitle first. We then researched Santa Catalina for our topic which is Emergency responses and disaster preparedness.  After that, we are actually clueless about the format for the CBR paper, we have asked Niña's brother if he has still a soft copy about their CBR last school year but it's negative, there's none. We only have one chance left, that is to message a Kuya that was an ssc before and conducted too a CBR. Since I'm the only only who has a contact with him, I gathered up my courage to chat him and asked him if he still has a copy, lucky he did (thank you kuya T^T). That's...

Third Quarter Reflection: Overcoming Challenges and Gaining New Skills

Image
By the end of the third quarter, I had learned a lot, especially in doing Community-Based Research and creating webpages using HTML and CSS. In research, I learned how to develop the right steps, choose an appropriate topic, and gather data. Meanwhile, creating a webpage, I learned the proper use of HTML and CSS, including unordered lists, nesting lists, and HTML frames. These knowledges are important because they will help me in my academic journey and in the future. However, not everything was easy. One of the biggest challenges in Community-Based Research is finding the right people to interview. At first, we had a hard time finding a source of information, but we overcame it by interviewing the policemen in Santa Catalina. As for creating the webpage, the biggest problem was when my codes didn't work properly. To solve this, I watched YouTube tutorials and asked my cousin for help. Because of this, I learned to be more resourceful and patient in solving problems. In the coming ...

Why Filipinos Celebrate Chinese New Year: A Fusion of Culture, Tradition, and Prosperity

Image
Chinese New Year is one of the biggest celebrations in the Philippines, even though not all Filipinos are of Chinese descent. The relationship between the Philippines and China has been deep since the time of trade before the arrival of the Spaniards. Because of this, many Chinese customs and beliefs have been incorporated into Filipino culture, including welcoming their new year. Today, many Filipinos, especially those in big cities like Manila, join in this celebration by eating tikoy, performing dragon dance, and preparing lucky food. Aside from the cultural influence, many Filipinos also participate in Chinese New Year because of the belief in luck and prosperity. Many prepare round fruits, light firecrackers, and clean the house to bring in positive energy for the coming year. Although not part of Chinese culture, Filipinos love these traditions because we naturally believe in auspiciousness and starting the year full of hope. Delicious foods such as pancit for longevity and dumpl...

Vigan City: A Timeless Treasure of Heritage and Culture

Image
Vigan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a treasure trove of history in the Philippines. Its journey from being a simple town to being a progressive city is a testament to its rich cultural heritage and resilience. Vigan as a Town Back then  Back then, Vigan was a town known for its stone streets, Spanish colonial houses, and being the political and religious center of Ilocos Sur. During this period, Vigan's economy depends on agriculture, small-scale industries, and traditional handicrafts such as pottery and weaving. Despite its historical importance, resources were limited and the town's development was slow. Vigan people are very close to their traditions and culture. Festivals like the Viva Vigan Binatbatan Festival showcase the vibrant spirit of the town. However, as a town, Vigan has limited management capacity and lack of funds, so its progress is slow. Vigan as a City Today  On January 22, 2001, Vigan was declared a city by virtue of Republic Act No. 8988. Its ci...

My Christmas Holidays

Image
This year's Christmas is filled with joy and love with my family. On December 29, we went on a joyful vacation and visited the historic Paoay Church. We were amazed by the beauty of its architecture and the serene environment that gave us the opportunity to pray and reflect. After this, we stopped by Robinsons to shop. The experience was very joyful because we could really feel the vibrant spirit of Christmas while shopping for gifts and necessities. On December 31, the entire Rabena family gathered for our year-end party. That day was joyful and full of life because of the delicious food, laughter, and stories. We all prepared everything together—from cooking the food to arranging the decorations. The event was made even more memorable with a gift exchange and an exciting program full with surprises and activities. We celebrated the New Year with joy at the stroke of midnight. Colorful fireworks...

New Year, New Goals

Image
The beginning of the year is a fantastic time to review objectives and make positive changes. Saving money is something I often take for granted, so this year I made the decision to focus on it. Back then, I often spent on unnecessary things, so my savings were always short when there was a sudden need. This year, I understood the importance of being careful with money, not only for security but to reach my dreams. To accomplish my goal of saving, I will plan carefully.I start by making a monthly budget to keep tabs on my expenses and identify areas for savings. Second, I'll set up a different savings account and contribute a portion of my monthly paycheck to it. Lastly, I'll learn to prioritize the things that are vital and refrain from purchasing items that aren't necessary. I know this process will not be easy. There are temptations and times when I may struggle to control spending. But I'm determined to stay disciplined and remember why I'm doing it. By the en...

Reflections on My HTML Journey(2nd Quarter): Challenges and Discoveries

Image
During this quarter, I have learned a lot about HTML, especially the importance of tags like the break rule, which is denoted as <br>, horizontal rule as <hr>, and various formatting tags. The tools helped me understand how to enhance text alignment using attributes and add background colors for aesthetic appeal.  However, I faced problems in my process, especially when working with tags for HTML images. Sometimes, the images did not appear correctly in my file, and I was frustrated and delayed by this. This taught me to be more precise with file paths and to double-check syntax to avoid mistakes. I asked my friends and classmates for help to overcome these problems. They gave me some guidance and also shared tips, such as ensuring that the paths to image files were correctly linked and that there were no typographical errors. Collaboration with them solved my problems and also strengthened my understanding of the concepts. I will keep on practicing and exploring HTML t...

Safeguarding Dignity: Understanding the Laws Protecting Women and Children from Violence and Abuse in the Philippines

The Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, or Republic Act No. 9262 , was enacted as a prime law aimed at protecting women and their children from abuse and violence. Being violence against women as a public issue that demeans and puts in peril the dignity, safety, and equality of women and children, its existence underscores the necessity of implementing robust interventions through legal and social measures. It addresses both immediate harm and the systemic causes of gender-based violence as it includes physical, sexual, psychological, and economic abuse. Protection under R.A. 9262 is extended to women and their children, be it legitimate or illegitimate, against abusive partners or persons whom they may have had a romantic or sexual relationship with. The law offers remedies in the form of protection orders, including Barangay Protection Orders (BPO), Temporary Protection Orders (TPO), and Permanent Protection Orders (PPO). These are all intended to safegua...

Celebrating Indigenous Peoples Month 2024: Upholding Rights and Honoring Culture

The month of October marks a significant period for the Philippines as we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Month and commemorate the 27th year of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA). This year’s theme, “Mga Katutubo at Katutubong Dunong: Pahalagahan, Pangalagaan at Parangalan” (Valuing, Nurturing, and Honoring Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Knowledge), highlights our shared responsibility to recognize, safeguard, and honor the unique heritage and rights of the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in the country.     National Indigenous Peoples Month in 2024 can be a significant step to the promotion and protection of IP rights and culture in the following ways: 1. The promotion of awareness of indigenous rights The commemoration is used as a platform that highlights the provisions of IPRA enacted to protect the IPs' rights to their ancestral lands, self-governance, cultural integrity, and social justice. All these call for events and discussions in educational campaigns about th...

Climate Change and the Resilience of Filipinos: Rising Above Challenges

Image
The climate crisis has become one of the most pressing challenges for the Philippines, a nation highly vulnerable to natural disasters and environmental shifts. From super typhoons to prolonged droughts, these changes have devastating consequences for countless Filipinos, impacting their homes, livelihoods, and communities. Several factors contribute to these environmental changes. Unsustainable practices such as deforestation, pollution, and over-reliance on fossil fuels exacerbate climate change. Urbanization without proper planning has led to habitat destruction and increased carbon emissions. Additionally, global warming, driven by industrial activities worldwide, has intensified weather patterns, making natural disasters more frequent and severe. Despite these challenges, the resilience of Filipinos shines through. Communities are finding innovative ways to adapt—building disaster-resilient infrastructure, embracing sustainable farming techniques, and advocating for renewable ener...

2024 National Children's Month Celebration: A Call to Protect and Empower Our Youth

Image
The 2024 National Children's Month Celebration carries a compelling theme: “Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines.” This theme resonates with the urgent need to address the various forms of abuse, exploitation, and violence faced by children across the nation. As a society, we must recognize that violence against children comes in many forms—physical, emotional, and psychological. It can occur within homes, schools, and communities, leaving lasting scars that affect a child's development and well-being. Beyond immediate harm, such violence perpetuates cycles of poverty, inequality, and neglect. Creating a safe environment for children requires a united effort. Policymakers must enforce stricter laws to protect children, while communities should foster environments of love, respect, and understanding. Parents and guardians also play a crucial role by nurturing open communication and instilling values that promote non-violence. T...
