Vigan City: A Timeless Treasure of Heritage and Culture

 Vigan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a treasure trove of history in the Philippines. Its journey from being a simple town to being a progressive city is a testament to its rich cultural heritage and resilience.

Vigan as a Town Back then 

Back then, Vigan was a town known for its stone streets, Spanish colonial houses, and being the political and religious center of Ilocos Sur. During this period, Vigan's economy depends on agriculture, small-scale industries, and traditional handicrafts such as pottery and weaving. Despite its historical importance, resources were limited and the town's development was slow.

Vigan people are very close to their traditions and culture. Festivals like the Viva Vigan Binatbatan Festival showcase the vibrant spirit of the town. However, as a town, Vigan has limited management capacity and lack of funds, so its progress is slow.


Vigan as a City Today 



On January 22, 2001, Vigan was declared a city by virtue of Republic Act No. 8988. Its city status has given it greater autonomy and more resources to accelerate development and improve infrastructure.

Currently, Vigan is a prosperous city that well combines the wealth of history and modern development. The local government preserves heritage sites such as Calle Crisologo and Vigan Cathedral, while promoting sustainable development. Tourism is the main source of the economy, where many tourists from different parts of the world visit to experience its unique history and culture.

In addition, there has also been significant progress in public services, education, and health that provide better benefits to residents. The city's economy also expanded, which now includes large businesses and industries alongside traditional handicrafts. Vigan was also recognized as one of the New7Wonders Cities, highlighting its status as a global cultural center.

Vigan's journey from being a town to being a city shows its ability to develop while preserving its rich cultural heritage. Its transformation serves as an inspiration to other towns that seek balanced development. As Vigan continues to embrace progress, it remains a living proof of the harmonious blend of history and modernity.

Reflections on My HTML Journey(2nd Quarter): Challenges and Discoveries

During this quarter, I have learned a lot about HTML, especially the importance of tags like the break rule, which is denoted as <br>, horizontal rule as <hr>, and various formatting tags. The tools helped me understand how to enhance text alignment using attributes and add background colors for aesthetic appeal.  However, I faced problems in my process, especially when working with tags for HTML images. Sometimes, the images did not appear correctly in my file, and I was frustrated and delayed by this. This taught me to be more precise with file paths and to double-check syntax to avoid mistakes. I asked my friends and classmates for help to overcome these problems. They gave me some guidance and also shared tips, such as ensuring that the paths to image files were correctly linked and that there were no typographical errors.
