Valentine’s Day: A Celebration of Love and Appreciation

Image
Araw ng mga Puso or Valentine's Day is a special day celebrated every February 14th to show love and appreciation to our loved ones. This is not only for lovers but also for family, friends, and other people who play an important role in our lives. Valentine's Day is rooted in the history of St. Valentine, a Roman priest who secretly married soldiers who were forbidden to marry during the Roman Empire. Because of his concern and love, he became a symbol of love and sacrifice. Over time, it has become a tradition to give gifts, flowers, and love letters on this special day. There are different ways to express our love and appreciation:  ❤️ Small gift – No need to be loved; what is important is the sincere giving.  ❤️ Expressing feelings – Can be through a letter, message, or personally saying “I love you” or “Thank you.”  ❤️ Spending time – The most important gift is the time we spend with our loved ones.  ❤️ Small surprise – A simple dinner, a hug, or even jus...

Our Community-Based Research Journey: Discovery and Growth

Image
Back then, our teacher sent us a file about the Community-Based Research, she told us to take note of what's in the file. After that she then told us that we will be group by the use of where we came from. That is when Me, Niña, Luis and Nathaniel are grouped together for the Research the we conducted in Santa Catalina. After that we are told to start our CBR by making the Title with Subtitle first. We then researched Santa Catalina for our topic which is Emergency responses and disaster preparedness.  After that, we are actually clueless about the format for the CBR paper, we have asked Niña's brother if he has still a soft copy about their CBR last school year but it's negative, there's none. We only have one chance left, that is to message a Kuya that was an ssc before and conducted too a CBR. Since I'm the only only who has a contact with him, I gathered up my courage to chat him and asked him if he still has a copy, lucky he did (thank you kuya T^T). That's...

Third Quarter Reflection: Overcoming Challenges and Gaining New Skills

Image
By the end of the third quarter, I had learned a lot, especially in doing Community-Based Research and creating webpages using HTML and CSS. In research, I learned how to develop the right steps, choose an appropriate topic, and gather data. Meanwhile, creating a webpage, I learned the proper use of HTML and CSS, including unordered lists, nesting lists, and HTML frames. These knowledges are important because they will help me in my academic journey and in the future. However, not everything was easy. One of the biggest challenges in Community-Based Research is finding the right people to interview. At first, we had a hard time finding a source of information, but we overcame it by interviewing the policemen in Santa Catalina. As for creating the webpage, the biggest problem was when my codes didn't work properly. To solve this, I watched YouTube tutorials and asked my cousin for help. Because of this, I learned to be more resourceful and patient in solving problems. In the coming ...

Why Filipinos Celebrate Chinese New Year: A Fusion of Culture, Tradition, and Prosperity

Image
Chinese New Year is one of the biggest celebrations in the Philippines, even though not all Filipinos are of Chinese descent. The relationship between the Philippines and China has been deep since the time of trade before the arrival of the Spaniards. Because of this, many Chinese customs and beliefs have been incorporated into Filipino culture, including welcoming their new year. Today, many Filipinos, especially those in big cities like Manila, join in this celebration by eating tikoy, performing dragon dance, and preparing lucky food. Aside from the cultural influence, many Filipinos also participate in Chinese New Year because of the belief in luck and prosperity. Many prepare round fruits, light firecrackers, and clean the house to bring in positive energy for the coming year. Although not part of Chinese culture, Filipinos love these traditions because we naturally believe in auspiciousness and starting the year full of hope. Delicious foods such as pancit for longevity and dumpl...
